Not only was the film exceeding my expectations with every shot, but the results were even better than I could have hoped. I think the phrase “over the moon” was used earnestly for the first time in my life.

Story

The sun is rising gently over the Brandenburg Gate, teenagers squint as they emerge from a night of carefree dancing, arm in arm, laughing, swaying, an elderly couple wander slowly towards the Berliner Dom, hand in hand – Berlin Kino B&W Film captures life’s most elusive moments in everlasting monochrome charm.

Berlin Kino B&W Film is the founding member of the Lomography B&W Kino Film Family – our very special collection of multiformat monochromes. Inspired by the New German Cinema sweeping through Europe in the 1960s, our Kino Films are extracted from rolls of cine film produced by a legendary German company that has been changing the face of cinema since the early 1900s. Originally used to make moody monochrome movies, their gorgeous black and white tones lend a timeless aesthetic to every shot.

Our original Berlin Kino B&W Film was an utter blockbuster, however, as German cinema evolved through time, adapting to meet the innovative spirit of its founding fathers, so did our film formula. Refined and brimming with greater artistic control, the 2019 formula of Berlin Kino B&W Film will imbue your shots with unmistakable cinematic beauty.

Development

Black and White film is perfect for self-development at home – check out the Berlin Kino Film Guide for more information. Berlin Kino B&W Film has a sensitivity of ISO 400, however, due to its impressive latitude you can push the ISO up to 800, 1600 or 3200 while retaining an impressive tonal range and detail. Unique in its high dynamic range and ability to produce distinct yet equally stunning results with different filters and development processes, this panchromatic emulsion is a blank canvas for your creativity.

You can use any B&W Film Developer with this film. If the specific developing time you are looking for is not provided in our Film Development Guide then we suggest you use the standard developing time and dilution stated on the developer instructions. Just remember that using the standard developer times is always a bit of an experiment – but hey, that’s half the fun.
