1. T-22 Triplet f/4.5 75mm Lens
The Lubitel 166B's heart and soul resides inside its excellent lens. True to its distinguished Lomo heritage, the Triplet T-22 yields exceptional color, razor-sharpness, and very strong contrast. Many photographers and photo-aficionados out there have gone as far as to compare the signature look of Lubitel photographs to the early Carl Zeiss Hasselblad lenses. As the Lubitel is medium format, its 75mm focal length roughly equates to a 45mm focal length for a 35mm camera. Resulting images are 6cm x 6cm.
2. Twin-Lens Reflex Viewer
Flip up the metal cover to reveal the Lubitel's ground glass top-down viewer. This image is fed through the top front viewing lens. Compose and perfectly focus your shots using the integrated bright circle focus point. A built in magnifying glass flips down for extra resolution detail. This system is perfect for unexpected street shots - no one knows the camera is aimed at them! Fun fact: all top-down viewers are horizontally reversed, so if you swing the camera to the right, your image moves to the left. Believe us, it is a laugh! (and you'll eventually get used to it)
3. Manual Aperture & Shutter Speed
Full manual controls allow for maximum flexibility in creating your shots. Shutter speeds range from 1/250 second to 1/15 second. A "B" (bulb) setting also allows you to keep the shutter open for as long as the shutter release button is depressed. Apertures range from f/4.5 (max) to f/22 (min), for total depth of field control. Set a larger aperture (f/4.5) for shallow depth of field, thereby placing a sharp subject against a blurry background. This is great for portraits. Smaller apertures (f/22 or f/16) provide a background and foreground that are both in focus.
4. Manual Shutter Cock & Advance
Prior to shooting, you must cock the shutter. However, it is not necessary to advance the film prior do doing this. The benefit: crazy multiple exposures are a snap! By cocking the shutter and shooting without advancing, you can easily layer as many multiple exposures onto one image as you desire. You can also vary how far you advance - thereby overlapping your images, and creating one solid strip of exposed negative. It's very cool.
5. Flash / Cable / Tripod Connections
Get yourself connected with the following fun Lubitel sockets
* Standard threaded cable release connection for perfect, shake-free long exposures
* PC Flash socket for synching a flash at all shutter speeds. The Lomography Colorsplash flash works great with the Lubitel when paired with a hotshoe-to-PC adaptor
* Standard tripod screw for tripod-bound shooting
